Reconsidering The Traditional Home Floor Plan

Jul 22,2008

Most homes, no matter how many rooms there are, always feature a master bedroom. Some floor plans have built the master bedroom on the ground floor, conveniently located nearer to the kitchen or a larger bath. Other floor plans include amenities in the master bedroom that turn it into a suite, such as fridges, huge walk-in closets and sitting area. The latest trend on the rise, however, is the concept of two master bedrooms.

The Two Master Bedroom Floor Plan

As housing sizes grow larger and the needs of buyers change, many builders are trying to accommodate the growing need for space with a second master bedroom. The National Association of Home Builders estimates that 60 percent of custom-made homes will have two master bedrooms by 2015. Nearly a quarter of home orders are already requesting the two master bedroom plan.

One of the reasons double master bedrooms have taken off is due to the changing lifestyles of buyers. Floor plan designs now reflect the changing market place as families and non-family groups live in homes together. By building two master bedrooms, homebuilders can appeal to more than one kind of buyer. A second master bedroom is great for those who want their parents to move in once they get older, or as a larger room for guests or caretakers.

Advantages of Two Master Bedrooms

One of the advantages of two master bedrooms is how the extra space can house more people or give them more room. Besides the additional space, two master bedrooms are becoming popular with young and old couples alike who want to sleep. Nearly 80 percent of couples where a partner snores sleep in separate rooms, so having two master bedrooms allows each person to get a good night’s rest.

Other types of buyers, such as adult friends who are buying a home together or siblings investing in same home to save money, are also keen on double master bedrooms. As the family dynamics change, homebuyers are seeking out new ways for their home to fit their lifestyle. Two master bedrooms are just another way of meeting this need.
