Why Is 2008 a Good Time to Consider Land Ownership?

Feb 05,2008

If you’ve been putting off land ownership for years and are wondering when the right time is to pull the trigger, 2008 may be your year. Here are a few reasons why you may consider owning land in 2008, even if you’ve been reluctant in years past.

The Land Market Is Right

When others are running for the hills is when you should be making your move. There has been a lot of talk about the housing market crisis, which has resulted in a reluctance to buy real estate. This means it is a buyer’s market, with prices as low as they have been in a long time. They won’t stay this low forever. It is a law of economics that eventually the market will bounce back, possibly by sometime in 2009, and you want to have gotten in before that happens. If you’re thinking long term, buy land now and reap the benefits down the road.

You’re Ready to Own Land

If you’ve been thinking about buying land for several years, the likelihood is that you’ve been preparing for it as well. Hopefully you’ve been saving, keeping your credit high and generally putting yourself in a position to borrow the money you’ll need to buy the parcel of land that’s right for you.

Land Provides Retirement Options

The population is getting older, meaning that more and more people are looking for places to retire. If you yourself are already thinking about where you might want to spend your sunset years, 2008 may be the perfect year for you to start scouting locations that will provide everything you’ll need. Even if you’re not, holding onto land that could become retirement property for others could become a big cash bonanza ten or so years down the line.

There Are Few Better Investments than Land

Stocks go down, cars depreciate. While the value of your land may decrease slightly, if you pick the right location, it will almost always recover. Land is one of the most stable investments you can make. Even if all your investments are losing value, you’ll always have a place to live.

Besides all of the above reasons, one reason that 2008 is a great year to buy land is that any year is a great year to buy land. The sooner you buy it, the longer you will have it. Just imagine how much 100 acres of land that was purchased 50 years ago is worth today. If you act now, think about how much your property will be worth a few decades down the road.
