Alaska Farm For Sale

Aug 27,2008

If you haven’t found the right farm for sale, you may not be looking in the right place. Certain areas may not have good farmland available, while others may have what you want for sale, but at a price that’s too steep for you to afford. One possible solution may be finding a farm for sale in Alaska.

What to Expect in an Alaska Farm for Sale

A good Alaska farm will be proximally close to one or more of Alaska’s famous lakes and rivers. These rivers are fed by the Bering Sea, one of the greatest sources of fishing in the world, especially for salmon.

As an owner of an Alaska farm, you will want to be able to take advantage of this. Your farm should also have plenty of wide-open space for hiking and horseback riding. If some of Alaska’s epic mountains are part of the scenery, it's that much better.

Agriculture on an Alaska Farm

Agricultural products on an Alaska farm will usually be in the form of vegetables like carrots and potatoes. Farming in Alaska is a good news-bad news proposition. Since there is constant sunlight in many farming areas, crops can grow to an incredible size. However, because the winters are so long, farmers will have to maximize their production during the warmer months.

Where to Find an Alaska Farm for Sale

There are two main areas to find a farm for sale in Alaska. One is the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. So named for its proximity to the Matanuska and Susitna rivers, this roughly 23,000 square mile valley just north of Anchorage has some great fishing and fertile farming land.

The other main Alaska farm spot is the Kenai Peninsula, a peninsula on the southern coast of Alaska. The Kenai Peninsula has many lakes and rivers, as well as spectacular mountains in the area.
