Arkansas Farm Land

Aug 28,2008

Finding farm land in Arkansas is not difficult, considering how important agriculture is to the state’s economy. Some are more isolated from other areas of the state, while others are within 50 miles of metro areas like Little Rock. While some land for sale is specifically designated for homebuilding only, there is a good deal of available farm land for sale in Arkansas.

About Arkansas

Arkansas is located in the Southern region of the U.S., with the Mississippi River flowing through most of the state’s eastern half. Neighboring states include Missouri, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas and Oklahoma, placing Arkansas toward the middle of the contiguous U.S.

The Delta and Grain Prairie regions of Arkansas have fertile soil perfect for faming. This Delta is what keeps Arkansas a major agricultural contributor to the nation’s economy, growing crops such as soybeans, rice, sorghum and wheat.

In the northwestern area of the state lies the Ozark Plateau and stunning Ouachita Mountains. Along with the Boston Mountains, these are the only major mountain ranges between the Appalachians and the Rockies.

Buying Farm Land in Arkansas

Since Arkansas is an agricultural center in the U.S., it’s easy to find farmable land, such as in the Lowlands area, where the soil is very fertile. You can buy a single acre of land, up to hundreds of acres for commercial farming purposes. Many of these properties are very picturesque, either set against green pastures and gently rolling hills or wooded acreage with views of the mountains.

Unless you already have the equipment necessary, you probably want to try buying a farm with a barn, house and operations already built on the property. Make sure you know exactly what you can farm, since that will be the crop producing revenue. It is usually unwise to start planting a new crop.

Other farming properties have private access to nearby lakes, rivers, creeks and streams. If the property is not near one of these, double check wells and water sources. Arkansas farm land is a sure bet for growing crops and building a farm of your own.
